SECOND ADDENDUM TO THE EIGHTH WORK PLAN

INTRODUCTION

The Pond Dynamics/Aquaculture Collaborative Research Support Program’s framework consists of two building blocks: research in sustainable production systems and research support activities. The latter builds capacity through education, technology transfer, information management, and networking. The former attempts to remove constraints to the development of more sustainable aquaculture through research in three different areas: production optimization, environmental effects, and social and economic aspects. Each area is further subdivided into more specific research themes. Researchers may employ one of three different types of investigations (i.e., experiments, studies, or activities) to achieve the objective of a given research theme.

Experiments are investigations addressing a testable hypothesis and collecting new data by controlled manipulation and observation. Studies are collections of technical data without conducting a controlled manipulation, i.e. surveys, database examinations, and modeling. Activities are mainly the dissemination of information through conference organization, training sessions, outreach, etc.

The PD/A CRSP recognizes three types of work plans. Regional work plans address regional research issues by proposing investigations for several research themes relevant to a region. A regional work plan may contain a combination of different investigation types, i.e. experiments, studies, and/or activities. Cross-Cutting research plans address any one research theme and may consist of one or more investigations typically all of the same type, i.e. experiments or studies. Research support work plans address research conducted by the Education Development Component or Central Database Management Component. These work plans contain only activities.

The Second Addendum to the Eighth Work Plan contains approved work plan revisions for Eighth Work Plan investigations and may be most useful when consulted in conjuction with the Eighth Work Plan and the Addendum to the Eighth Work Plan. One work plan, study code ADR2 (p. 13), appears here for the first time. Subsequent addenda, if any, will be published annually. The following report is divided into two sections: Section A contains Revised Experimental Designs; Section B contains Revised Schedules.
